An American Werewolf in London (1981)
Two American backpackers are attacked by a vicious creature on the English moors; one is killed, the other is severely wounded. The survivor wakes up in a London hospital to be told his friend is dead and that he is recovering from animal attacks. He is soon haunted by graphic nightmares and the decaying corpse of his friend, who warns him that he will transform into a werewolf at the next full moon.
