East of Eden (1955)
In the years before World War I, two brothers in California's Salinas Valley compete for the affection of their stern, religious father. One brother is gentle and obedient, while the other is wild and desperate for approval. Their rivalry is further complicated by the discovery that their mother, long believed dead, is actually alive and running a nearby brothel.
