Frequency (2000)
A detective discovers he can communicate with his father, a firefighter who died 30 years earlier, through an old ham radio during an unusual aurora borealis. By changing events in the past through these conversations, he inadvertently creates a new timeline where a serial killer his father investigated is now active again, and his mother becomes the new target.
