A staunch atheist and cynical shopkeeper who sells religious idols has his store destroyed in an earthquake. When his insurance company denies his claim, calling the event an "act of God," he decides to sue God himself. His controversial lawsuit brings him into conflict with entire religious institutions and outraged believers. The legal battle becomes a national spectacle, forcing a public examination of blind faith, religious commercialization, and the very nature of God, as the man argues his case based on the paradoxes and contradictions he sees in organized religion.
