Suzanne Pujol is the submissive wife of a tyrannical umbrella factory owner. When her husband is taken hostage by striking workers, Suzanne is forced to take the helm of the family business. To everyone's surprise, including her own, she proves to be a natural and progressive leader, revitalizing the factory and earning the workers' respect. Her newfound independence creates a power struggle with her husband upon his return, challenging the traditional dynamics of their marriage and her role as a mere “trophy wife” or *potiche*.
