A couple, Martin and Kate, retreat to a remote island off the coast of Scotland to repair their strained marriage. Their isolation becomes absolute when a severe storm cuts off all communication. A wounded soldier, who claims to be the sole survivor of a rapidly spreading pandemic that has decimated the mainland, washes ashore. He insists they must fortify the cottage against infected outsiders. His arrival creates a claustrophobic atmosphere of paranoia and fear, as the couple must decide whether to trust the stranger's terrifying story.
