Short Circuit (1986)
Number 5, a sophisticated military robot, is struck by lightning during a test. The electrical surge gives it a conscious personality and sentience. Escaping the laboratory, the robot explores the human world, developing a childlike curiosity. It is taken in by a kind woman, but its creators and the military are in pursuit, determined to retrieve and dismantle the “malfunctioning” machine they see as government property.
