The Birth of a Nation (1915)
The lives of two families, one Northern and one Southern, are followed through the events of the American Civil War and the subsequent Reconstruction era. The film portrays the assassination of President Lincoln and the formation of the Ku Klux Klan, which it depicts as a heroic force necessary to restore order to the South and protect white Southerners from the perceived threats of emancipation.
