The Golden Compass (2007)
In a parallel world where people's souls exist outside their bodies as animal companions called daemons, a young girl is given a mysterious truth-telling device called an alethiometer. She uncovers a sinister plot involving the kidnapping of children and a substance called "Dust." She sets out on a journey to the far North to rescue her best friend and other missing children, accompanied by an armored bear and a crew of gyptians, all while evading a powerful and ruthless organization that seeks the device.
