The Hunt for Red October (1990)
At the height of the Cold War, a brilliant Soviet submarine captain commands a new, virtually undetectable nuclear submarine. He appears to be heading for the American coast to launch an attack. A young CIA analyst deduces that the captain may actually be attempting to defect, and he must convince his superiors of this theory to prevent a catastrophic confrontation between the two superpowers.
