 
            The Killing Fields (1984)
A New York Times journalist and his local Cambodian interpreter are covering the civil war in Cambodia. When the Khmer Rouge takes over Phnom Penh, the American journalist is evacuated, but his interpreter is left behind and imprisoned in a labor camp. The film follows the interpreter's brutal fight for survival and the journalist's desperate efforts to find him amidst the genocide.
