To Have and Have Not (1944)
A cynical American fishing boat captain in Martinique insists on staying neutral during the wartime turmoil. His resolve is tested when a beautiful and charming drifter enters his life. He is reluctantly drawn into helping French Resistance fighters smuggle a fugitive onto the island, finding a cause worth fighting for and a reason to care again.
