The story intertwines two timelines. In 1998, Wally Winthrop is a lonely New York woman trapped in an abusive marriage. She becomes obsessed with the historical romance between King Edward VIII and American divorcée Wallis Simpson. As Wally spends her days at an auction house previewing the couple's estate, she immerses herself in their story, drawing parallels to her own life. The film alternates between Wally's search for meaning and a depiction of Wallis's perspective on the famous abdication, exploring the price of love and the reality behind the fairy tale.
